Abstract
L’Australian War Memorial (AWM) de Canberra présente dans sa galerie de la Première Guerre mondiale, rouverte après une profonde rénovation en 2014, une dizaine de dioramas mettant en scène des champs de bataille dans lesquels les Forces impériales australiennes furent engagées au cours du conflit. Selon un guide souvenir du Mémorial, « les visiteurs sont attirés vers eux comme par magie, et les souvenirs que l’on en garde durent souvent la vie entière ». Comment comprendre cette « magie » exercée par les dioramas sur leurs visiteurs ? Quelles sont dans un tel contexte les fonctions qu’on souhaite leur voir remplir ? En observant la place et l’opérativité attribuées aux dioramas de la galerie de la Première guerre mondiale, avant et après la rénovation de 2014, nous mettons en valeur la façon dont ces dispositifs muséographiques sont révélateurs des enjeux mémoriels de la société australienne à l’heure du centenaire, et contribuent jusqu’aujourd’hui à réarticuler les liens des visiteurs à leur histoire.
