Abstract
Le présent article s'efforce de retracer l'évolution de l'activité d'édition périodique en français au Québec depuis ses premiers pas jusqu'au lendemain de la création du Dominion du Canada.Après un court préambule sur la situation de l'édition en français à l'époque de la Nouvelle France, notre réflexion s'organisera autour de quatre thèmes charnières : Information, Education, Identité, la France.Notre présentation s'accompagnera d'un questionnement sur le possible impact porté sur l'activité d'édition par la situation particulière au sein de la colonie britannique que connaissent la communauté francophone et la langue française au cours du 19 ème siècle.Nous tenterons, en nous penchant plus particulièrement sur la presse et l'édition périodique, et sans nous intéresser à l'édition officielle, de mettre en lumière comment et dans quelle mesure le multiculturalisme a influé au cours de cette période le développement de l'activité éditoriale et ses objectifs.L'ambition de cette étude n'est pas tant de donner des réponses à toutes les observations formulées que de tracer les voies pour un travail plus détaillé et de plus grande envergure que celui-ci.
