Notando a alta prevalência de traumatismos dentários entre a população, observa-se a importância das medidas a serem tomadas após o trauma para preservação da integridade do órgão dentário. O presente estudo objetivou avaliar a percepção dos Agentes Comunitários da atenção básica de Saúde (ACS) acerca do traumatismo dentário. Através de uma pesquisa qualitativa transversal, foi utilizado um questionário para 169 ACS pertencentes à região Metropolitana de Belém, Estado do Pará, Brasil, com o intuito de avaliar a associação entre a experiência dos ACS e seus respectivos conhecimentos e atitudes em relação ao trauma dentário. Após a tabulação dos dados, realizou-se análise estatística por meio do teste de Qui-quadrado e exato de Fisher, com nível α=0,05. A análise descritiva revelou que 93,5% dos agentes desconhecem o que é a avulsão dentária, 68% não tentariam reimplantar em caso de avulsão e 53,84% não armazenariam o fragmento dentário em nenhum tipo de solução após o traumatismo, mostrando um desempenho insatisfatório dos ACS, com grande deficiência no conhecimento básico geral sobre o tema. Além disso, os resultados indicaram que não há associação entre a experiência do ACS e seus respectivos conhecimentos com atitudes em relação ao trauma dento-alveolar. A partir desse estudo foi possível concluir, que as percepções dos ACS sobre o traumatismo dento-alveolar são insuficientes frente a uma eventual ocasião de trauma e que, portanto, são necessários uma melhor formação e um maior entendimento sobre o assunto para que possam ser prestados os primeiros socorros de maneira adequada nos casos de trauma dental.
