Abstract
L’évolution des relations de travail chez Alcan a été marquée par plusieurs événements considérables. Une période de crise a secoué les relations du travail dans les installations d’Alcan au Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean dans les années 1970. Les grèves de 1976 et de 1979 aux installations du Complexe de Jonquière ont été des moments difficiles et inquiétants pour l’avenir des relations du travail et, donc, pour la paix sociale indispensable au maintien d’une stabilité des opérations de production d’aluminium. Cette période est marquée par la naissance du Syndicat national des employés de l’aluminium d’Arvida (SNEAA) et la mise en place de la Fédération des syndicats du secteur aluminium (FSSA) pour les années 1936 à 1972. Il faut souligner l’importance de la grève de 1941, attribuable à l’exaspération des travailleurs, ainsi que l’héritage de deux présidents de syndicats, Adrien Plourde et Jean Halley. Ils ont marqué les années 1950 à 1980. La fin des années 1970 se caractérise par des signes annonciateurs d’une sortie de la crise grâce à de nouvelles approches de négociation.
