Le constat de la diversité impose un regard neuf sur les exigences associées à la formation du personnel enseignant et de l’ensemble des intervenants en éducation. Parmi ces exigences, il faut d’abord compter l’ouverture au pluralisme et le développement de la pensée critique. Dans cette présentation, je discute en premier lieu les raisons que nous avons d’intégrer dans la formation enseignante une réflexion sur les principes du pluralisme dans l’éducation démocratique. Quels sont ces principes et quelles sont leurs applications concrètes dans la formation? Je discute ensuite un certain nombre d’objections relatives aux positions normatives en éducation. Comment justifier l’importance d’une formation normative en tenant compte des critiques liées au relativisme, à la diversité communautaire et aux questions provenant de l’évolution de la sécularité et de la laïcité? Cette partie de ma présentation tentera de préciser les liens entre les exigences de formation pour le corps enseignant et les principaux programmes normatifs, tels qu’Éthique et culture religieuse et Histoire et éducation à la citoyenneté, mais sans exclure toutes les composantes normatives de l’ensemble des programmes de formation à l’enseignement.
