Préalable à un projet de recherche visant une meilleure compréhension de l’engagement des pères en consultation psychologique pour leur enfant, cette recherche qualitative exploratoire s’intéresse au vécu et à l’expérience de thérapeutes d’expérience (n = 4) à propos de leur travail clinique avec les pères. La méthodologie employée est la méthode de la théorisation enracinée (ou Grounded Theory ). Huit entretiens de recherche ont été conduits auprès des quatre cliniciens puis analysés qualitativement. En plus d’identifier plusieurs spécificités et enjeux relatifs aux pères en consultation, cette étude révèle que ce sont l’expérience et le vécu cliniques des professionnels qui orientent leur travail avec les pères, et non des références à la théorie. L’ébauche d’un modèle conceptuel de la place et du rôle des pères en consultation clinique infantile est proposée, modèle dans lequel le père se positionnerait face à la dyade mère-enfant en tant que tiers relationnel en alliance avec le thérapeute.
