O uso de cosmeticos e conhecido desde o Antigo Egito e utilizado como artigo de melhoria da aparencia e tornou-se rotineiro. Atualmente cerca de 25% da populacao adulta utiliza tinturas capilares. Como o produto e aplicado em regiao sensivel e bastante vascularizada, e importante conhecer o conteudo dessas tinturas para identificar os elementos presentes neste cosmetico. O objetivo deste trabalho e fazer a caracterizacao elementar de tinturas capilares e verificar se ha danos potenciais associados a saude relacionados ao uso do produto. A ANVISA classifica esses produtos, na Resolucao RDC no79, como Grau 2 devido ao risco potencial apresentado. Entretanto, no Canada, o Health Canada estabelece que os cosmeticos nao devem conter metais pesados, tais como Pb, As, Cd, Hg e Sb. Foi realizada a caracterizacao elementar de amostras de cinco coloracoes e marcas diferentes de tinturas capilares com a tecnica de EDXRF. O equipamento (Amptek) utilizado e composto por tubo Mini-X, alvo de Ag, e detector SDD-123. Os parâmetros tecnicos empregados foram 40kV, 10µA e 900s. Os resultados preliminares da analise das linhas de emissao das energias caracteristicas indicou que as amostras contem Cl, S, Si, P, Ni, Cu alem de outros elementos sob analise.
