Dès lors que la perspective comparative est -Durkheim le soulignait en son temps- au cœur de la démarche sociologique, les ouvrages qui s’annoncent sous cette bannière suscitent spontanément l’attention des sociologues. Et cette attention est souvent déçue car en guise de comparaison, on se contente fréquemment de juxtaposer des perspectives « nationales » en laissant au soin du lecteur ou de la lectrice le travail de comparaison annoncé. Ce numéro de la Revue Française d’Éducation Comparée ne fait hélas pas exception. Car si l’on y trouve de nombreux textes sur la zone des Antilles-Guyane (ce volume semblant faire écho à un colloque qui y a pris place), la majorité des contributions se fonde sur des données françaises, à quelques exceptions près : un texte Martinique/Québec, un autre France/Portugal et une compilation de statistiques internationales. Avec à nouveau cette interrogation que nombre de publications affichées comme comparatives laissent souvent dans l’ombre : pourquoi, pour quelles raisons compare-t-on précisément tel ou tel pays ?
