Eric Jennings 1Si l'historiographie de l'Algérie coloniale s'est enrichie sensiblement aux cours des dernières décennies, force est de constater que la question du tourisme est longtemps restée curieusement négligée.La lacune était d'autant plus surprenante que l'histoire du tourisme en Indochine, en Afrique occidentale française, comme à Madagascar a retenu l'intérêt de plusieurs chercheurs, sans compter l'histoire du tourisme dans les colonies britanniques ou néerlandaises 1 . 2Or, l'important ouvrage de Colette Zytnicki démontre tout l'intérêt de cette thématique dans le cadre algérien, tant pour l'histoire économique que culturelle.L'historienne, reconnue pour ses nombreux travaux sur la colonisation, sur l'Afrique du Nord, et en histoire juive 2 , jette en effet un regard nouveau sur les nombreux acteurs liés au tourisme algérien.Citons pêle-mêle les populations locales, l'armée, les entreprises, les élites, la presse, les autorités dont les plans ambitieux pour le secteur touristique étaient souvent en décalage avec la réalité, les artistes, les politiciens, et les voyageurs eux-mêmes.
