Contextualizacao: criancas com desenvolvimento motor atipico, ou que se apresentam com risco de atrasos, merecem atencao e acoes especificas, ja que os problemas de coordenacao e controle do movimento poderao se prolongar ate a fase adulta. Objetivo: observar o desenvolvimento motor de bebes prematuros e verificar se eles apresentam algum deficit no desenvolvimento motor em funcao da prematuridade. Metodos: o estudo caracteriza-se por uma abordagem exploratoria descritiva, de campo, quantitativa, retrospectiva, com corte transversal. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio do protocolo Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS), que tem por objetivo avaliar possiveis riscos de atraso no desenvolvimento motor de bebes prematuros com idade cronologica entre zero e dezoito meses. Foram avaliados dez bebes prematuros, nascidos em um hospital de pequeno porte do Vale dos Sinos, com idade gestacional entre 31,5 e 36 semanas. Resultados: o estudo mostrou que os bebes observados apresentam desenvolvimento motor adequado em todas as posturas estudadas (prono, supino, sentado, em pe). Conclusao: o desempenho dos prematuros estudados foi normal pela escala AIMS e manteve-se dentro do percentil 25% a 90%, o que caracteriza compatibilidade as habilidades motoras esperadas para suas respectivas faixas etarias.
