Dans la mesure où l’emploi de la langue des jeunes des cités est considéré comme un des traits stylistiques essentiels de la littérature de banlieue, l’étude de la traduction des romans beurs s’intéresse nécessairement à cette variété linguistique. Dans cette contribution, nous nous pencherons sur les éléments lexicaux propres à la langue des jeunes des cités dans Kiffe kiffe demain de Faïza Guène en traductions arabe, néerlandaise et espagnole. Concrètement, nous examinons les stratégies appliquées par les traducteurs dans 62 passages où apparaissent 21 mots appartenant à la langue des jeunes des cités. Notre étude montre que même s’il y a une grande variété de stratégies appliquées pour les trois langues en question, la standardisation – remplacement par la langue formelle, neutre ou informelle – est la stratégie la plus représentée dans notre corpus. Étonnamment, l’équivalence sociolinguistique n’est pas un choix traductif fréquent. La non-traduction, relativement courante, se constate uniquement quand il s’agit de mots issus de la langue arabe. Les traducteurs espagnol et arabe ont peu recours aux ajouts, tandis qu’en néerlandais, cette stratégie est fréquemment employée. Enfin, nous avons pu dégager très peu de régularité en ce qui concerne les procédés linguistiques étudiés et les stratégies mises en place pour les traduire.
