La conception de l’injection de la fondation rocheuse des barrages des aménagements hydroélectriques de La Romaine-3 et 4 a nécessité la modification de critères d’injection usuels d’Hydro-Québec en raison de conditions particulières. En effet, ces aménagements étant situés au nord du 51e parallèle, la température du rocher est habituellement de moins de 4°C, soit la température minimale pour injecter les fondations avec les coulis usuels. De plus, dans certains secteurs, la température maximale du rocher se situe entre 1°C et 2°C à l’année longue et il n’était pas possible de respecter le critère de temps de prise initiale du coulis de moins de 24 heures. Les formulations de coulis d’injection ont donc été modifiées en optimisant le rapport Eau/Ciment (E/C), les types de ciment et d’adjuvants pour permettre la prise initiale visée dans un rocher ayant une température de 1°C ou plus. Une étude expérimentale a été réalisée en laboratoire afin d’optimiser les paramètres de formulation, pour obtenir les propriétés recherchées. Les essais ont été réalisés entre 2012 et 2016, dans une chambre froide contrôlée à une température de 2°C et de 1°C. Lors des travaux de chantier, des bancs d’essais ont été réalisés pour valider les propriétés des nouveaux mélanges et leur pénétrabilité dans la fondation rocheuse. Les principaux résultats en laboratoire et aux sites des travaux sont présentés ainsi que certaines modifications apportées aux spécifications de l’injection pour optimiser la période disponible pour réaliser les travaux d’injection et assurer les critères de performance visés.
