Nous avons tous, comme patients, deplore une certaine deshumanisation de la medecine liee notamment aux progres de la technologie, l’echange oral avec le medecin etant de plus en plus mediatise par l’investigation des equipements. C’est pourquoi il est reconfortant de voir apparaitre (nous sommes au Quebec !) une medecine narrative. C’est le propos de ce livre qui presente le recit, non seulement comme l’etape initiale de la rencontre entre medecin et patient, mais comme une elaboration et une construction de sens partages sur le processus de soin et les transformations induites par la maladie physique et/ou psychique. Le dialogue entre medecin et patient est un croisement entre deux recits (mais il peut y en avoir d’autres dans le cas d’un travail d’equipe qui associe un travailleur social ou /un psychologue) : celui du diagnostic et de la therapie. Le patient devient alors co-acteur du processus, tant dans la phase initiale que dans l’etape de la reconstruction du sujet. Le soignant n’est plus alors seul interprete des elements qui lui sont presentes mais « il est celui qui rend possible l’acte de raconter » Le livre comporte deux parties, chacune presentant plusieurs contributions d’auteurs differents, philosophes, medecins, psychologues et meme travailleurs sociaux, diversite qui est signifiante de la collegialite a l’œuvre dans une approche humaniste de la medecine.
