Abstract
Power quality issues and their related indexes are relevant subjects in the connected electrical systems area. In this sense, it is essential to understand the relationship between power quality indicators and the interaction with electrical components. In this way, voltage fluctuations emerges as a historie and important matter to deal with. In order to investigate this phenomenon, many approaches have been developed. In a general way, the focus goes towards the visual flicker effect related to incandescent lamps. On the other hand, modem electrical systems are equipped and supply many other sensitive loads. This brings the question of knowing the relationship between UIE/IEC flicker approach and distinct devices performance. The investigation of voltage fluctuation, flicker indexes and equipment behavior characterize the objective for this work. The research is carried out by studding the theoretical basis of the method, developing a computational model that simulates the associated flickermeter and also by implementing the methodology in a digital prototype. Additionally, the results achieved are useful to support a discussion about flicker limits in Brazil, and the possibility of making them more flexible.
