Le ceftiofur, un antimicrobien de la classe des céphalosporines, a été utilisé systématiquement dans les couvoirs canadiens pour prévenir les mortalités en début d’élevage, causant une prévalence élevée d’Escherichia coli résistants aux céphalosporines chez les poulets de chair. L’utilisation préventive du ceftiofur a cessé en 2014. Nous avons examiné l’effet de son administration, de l’arrêt de tout antimicrobien au couvoir et du remplacement par la lincomycine-spectinomycine sur la proportion d’échantillon d’E. coli positifs à des gènes de β-lactamases à spectre étendu (ESBL) et de β-lactamases AmpC, ainsi que sur les profils de multirésistance des E. coli ESBL/AmpC chez des poulets de chair et leurs reproducteurs, un an après l’arrêt. Pour les E. coli indicateurs provenant de milieux non-enrichis avec du ceftriaxone, une diminution significative de la proportion d’échantillons possédant les gènes blaCMY-2 et/ou blaCTX-M a été observée suivant l’arrêt. En revanche, suite à l’enrichissement au ceftriaxone, facilitant la détection d’E. coli producteurs d’ESBL/AmpC, 99% des échantillons avant et après l’arrêt de ceftiofur possédaient des E. coli positifs pour blaCMY-2 ou blaCTX-M. Les troupeaux recevant la lincomycine-spectinomycine après l’arrêt du ceftiofur ont démontré une non-susceptibilité significativement accrue pour les classes des aminoglycosides, inhibiteurs de folate, phénicols, tétracyclines et pour les isolats d’E. coli possiblement extensivement résistants comparativement aux troupeaux recevant le ceftiofur ou aucun antimicrobien au couvoir. Cette étude démontre clairement une diminution initiale des E. coli positifs pour des ESBL/AmpC suite à l’arrêt du ceftiofur mais également une augmentation de la multirésistance aux différentes classes d’antimicrobien testées chez les E. coli suivant le remplacement avec la lincomycine-spectinomycine.
