La supposée crise des politiques migratoires européennes depuis 1995, sa forte médiatisation et le besoin d’information de la société civile sur cette question éminemment politique ont contribué à une intense production cartographique des flux de migrants. L’accueil mitigé réservé à la carte de l’agence finlandaise Lucify sur l’exil syrien nous conduit à examiner les enjeux contemporains de la mise en carte de flux de migrants internationaux, à les questionner, à les cartographier autrement. À l’heure du geoweb, la fabrication de ces cartes ouvre, en effet, de nouvelles questions dont l’analyse est rendue complexe non seulement par l’apparente variété des dispositifs techniques et de leur mise en œuvre, mais aussi parce qu’elle doit simultanément aborder ce qui relève de l’intention du concepteur de la carte et ce qui tient de sa réception auprès de publics ciblés. Il s’avère que la carte de Lucify apparaît ex nihilo, le recours à des procédés métaphoriques symbolisant des migrations humaines étant inappropriée. Nous examinons dans un premier temps les enjeux géopolitiques de la mise en carte de l’exil syrien, puis nous analysons la carte de Lucify et sa réception dans un contexte politico-technologique sensible. Dans un deuxième temps, nous présentons les enjeux méthodologiques sous-jacents, sous la forme de réponses cartographiques apportées à la demande sociale d’objectivité et d’humanisation des flux de migrants syriens.
