Les élections canadiennes du 21 octobre 2019 ont permis au Premier ministre libéral Justin Trudeau de conserver le pouvoir à la tête d’un gouvernement minoritaire. Les libéraux ont subi d’importantes pertes en voix et en sièges consécutives aux fortes déceptions liées à la politique et à la personnalité de Justin Trudeau. Plusieurs facteurs ont cependant aidé les libéraux à limiter leurs pertes en sièges : la polarisation des votes au Québec entre les libéraux et le Bloc sur la loi 21, l’impopularité du gouvernement provincial conservateur en Ontario, une répartition géographique des suffrages plus favorable que celle des conservateurs, un leader conservateur, Andrew Scheer, peu attractif. Les conservateurs ont échoué à reprendre le pouvoir à Ottawa bien qu’ils aient obtenu un peu plus de suffrages que les libéraux et ils ont été débordés au Québec par le Bloc dans l’électorat de la CAQ. Le Bloc québécois est le seul véritable vainqueur de ces élections grâce à sa défense de la loi 21. Le NPD n’a réussi à limiter son déclin que dans le Canada anglophone, perdant la quasi-totalité de ses sièges au Québec. Les Verts, bien qu’en progression, ont obtenu un résultat décevant, inférieur à celui de 2008, malgré une conjoncture très favorable.
