Les débuts de l’âge adulte représentent un objet d’observation privilégié pour analyser les deux référentiels de la responsabilité : la responsabilité comme cadre moral et la responsabilité comme expérience éthique. J’explique à l’aide de l’allégorie de l’acrobate comment les jeunes sont appelés à se singulariser et à se mettre en scène. Cette mise en scène comporte toutefois un paradoxe : elle dépend des soutiens collectifs tout en les rendant invisibles. Cette occultation du collectif impose un cadre normatif de responsabilité morale, voire d’imputabilité. De manière concomitante, le processus de singularisation engage les jeunes dans une expérience éthique de responsabilité. La créativité qu’impose la réflexion éthique les conduit à renégocier les normes cadrant leurs engagements de la vie privée, mais aussi ceux de la vie publique, puisqu’ils et elles se montrent créatifs dans les arènes de la démocratie participative.
