Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

We describe 25 new species in the genusTelothyriavan der Wulp, 1890 from Area de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG) in northwestern Costa Rica. All species herein described were reared from an ongoing inventory of wild-caught caterpillars spanning two families (Lepidoptera: Crambidae, and Tortricidae). Our study provides a concise description of each new species using morphology, life history, molecular data, and photographic documentation; a redescription of the genus, and its type species as well as a revised key to species ofTelothyriaoccurring in the Mesoamerican region. We also suggest seven new synonymies resulting in 11 new combinations. The following 25 new species ofTelothyriaare described:T. aidanisp. n.,T. alexanderisp. n.,T. auranticrussp. n.,T. auriolussp. n.,T. bicuspidatasp. n.,T. carolinacanoaesp. n.,T. clavatasp. n.,T. cristatasp. n.,T. diniamartinezaesp. n.,T. duniagarciaesp. n.,T. duvalierbricenoisp. n.,T. eldaarayaesp. n.,T. erythropygasp. n.,T. fimbriatasp. n.,T. fulgidasp. n.,T. gloriashihezaraesp. n.,T. griseasp. n.,T. harryramirezisp. n.,T. incisasp. n.,T. manuelpereiraisp. n.,T. obscurasp. n.,T. omissasp. n.,T. osvaldoespinozaisp. n.,T. peltatasp. n., andT. ricardocaleroisp. n. The following are proposed by Fleming & Wood as new generic synonyms ofTelothyria:ComatactaCoquillettSyn. n.,FloradaliaThompsonSyn. n.,PtilomyiaCurranSyn. n.,PtilomyiopsisTownsendSyn. n.,PtilomyoidesCurranSyn. n.,EuptilomyiaSyn. n.,EutelothyriaTownsendSyn. n. The following new combinations are proposed as a result of the new synonymies:Telothyria bequaerti(Curran, 1925)Comb. n.,Telothyria cruenta(Giglio-Tos, 1893)Comb. n.,Telothyria frontalis(Townsend, 1939)Comb. n.,Telothyria insularis(Curran, 1927)Comb. n.,Telothyria itaquaquecetubae(Townsend, 1931)Comb. n.,Telothyria major(Thompson, 1963)Comb. n.,Telothyria micropalpus(Curran, 1925)Comb. n.,Telothyria minor(Thompson, 1963)Comb. n.,Telothyria nautlana(Townsend, 1908)Comb. n.,Telothyria plumata(Curran, 1925)Comb. n.,Telothyria trinitatis(Thompson, 1963)Comb. n.,Telothyria variegata(Fabricius, 1805)Comb. n.Musca tricinctaFabricius is synonymized underTelothyria variegataFabricius,Syn. n. Telothyria schineriFleming & Woodnom. n.is proposed as a replacement name forMiltogramma brevipennisSchiner. Additionally we provide redescriptions of two previously named species: the type speciesTelothyria cupreiventris(van der Wulp) due to its being the type species, andTelothyria relicta(van der Wulp) due to its having been reared as an outcome of the inventory.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
