Abstract
La siguiente selección de poemas pertenece a la antología de reciente aparición On the Cusp / Albores / À l’orée. Sonetos de una palabra (2013) del poeta canadiense Seymour Mayne. Mayne nació en Montreal en 1944 e inició su carrera literaria cuando era muy joven. Su obra, que ha transitado la huella de distintos géneros literarios, ha sido acogida en el seno de distintas lenguas y culturas. Con fervor y gran talento, Mayne ha innovado en el soneto de una palabra, lo cual lo ha llevado por Canadá y por distintos países del mundo para dar charlas y conferencias sobre esta nueva forma de poesía. En esencia, se trata de un poema de catorce versos, con una sola palabra por verso, que se caracteriza por su concisión y gran efecto visual. La versión al español de los poemas fue realizada por la profesora y traductora María Laura Spoturno et al. en el marco de proyectos de investigación y traducción que se llevaron a cabo en la cátedra de Traducción Literaria I (Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina) en los que participaron más de dos centenas de estudiantes durante los ciclos lectivos 2008, 2009, 2010 y 2011. Por su parte, la versión al francés de los sonetos es responsabilidad de la traductora y poeta francesa Sabine Huynh.
