Introduccion: la cervicalgia cronica es un problema muy comun en la sociedad actual. El uso excesivo de dispositivos electronicos supone un factor de riesgo importante para la aparicion de signos de estres visual y de sintomatologia musculoesqueletica a nivel cervicodorsal. Objetivo: determinar la efectividad a corto plazo de un programa de entrenamiento propioceptivo a nivel cervical que implique la intervencion del sistema visual en pacientes con cervicalgia cronica. Material y metodo: ensayo clinico realizado con 30 sujetos (15 por grupo) que sufren de cervicalgia cronica. Variables: dolor (evaluado con la Escala Visual Analogica, el cuestionario McGill y el algometro) y rango articular cervical. El grupo control recibe el protocolo de tratamiento de Fisioterapia combinado y el grupo experimental se trata con el protocolo para cervicalgias y ademas un programa de reeducacion oculo-cervical. Resultados: en todas las variables encontramos que hubo diferencias entre los valores pretest y postest en ambos grupos, esto es, mejoro el estado de los sujetos en los dos grupos de tratamiento (p < 0,05). Por otro lado unicamente se encontraron diferencias significativas entre ambos grupos en la algometria en el trapecio superior derecho, mostrando mejores resultados el grupo experimental (media = -0,55 DT = 0,13) que el control (media = -0,38 DT = 0,27) y tambien en la extension, flexion lateral derecha e izquierda y rotaciones izquierda y derecha. Conclusiones: el programa de entrenamiento es efectivo para disminuir el dolor en el trapecio superior y para aumentar el rango de movilidad cervical. Estos ejercicios pueden ser una herramienta complementaria, pues involucran tanto los sistemas visuales como vestibulares mejorando la propiocepcion cervical.
