Un des modes de rupture redoute des barrages est le cisaillement autour des discontinuites rocheuses du massif de fondation ou de l’interface de fondation roc-beton. Afin d’evaluer la resistance au cisaillement de ces discontinuites, les guides professionnels preconisent la realisation d’essais de cisaillement et l’utilisation du critere de rupture de Mohr-Coulomb. Une telle demarche permet alors d’obtenir une valeur de cohesion apparente que les guides professionnels suggerent cependant de negliger dans les calculs de stabilite, privant alors l’ouvrage d’un parametre de resistance. Issu d’une collaboration entre l’Universite de Sherbrooke, INRAE et Hydro-Quebec, ce projet a pour objectif d’ameliorer l’etat des connaissances sur le comportement au cisaillement des discontinuites rocheuses en : i) determinant experimentalement les facteurs d’influence et ii) developpant un modele mecanique de comportement au cisaillement des discontinuites rocheuses prenant en compte l’effet de la rugosite.110 essais de cisaillement direct ont ete menes afin d’evaluer les effets sur le cisaillement des discontinuites rocheuses de : la rugosite, l’endommagement, l’emboitement, la contrainte normale, l’effet des proprietes mecaniques du materiau ou du type de contact. Les resultats montrent que la rugosite et l’emboitement semblent etre les deux facteurs d’influence les plus importants. Par la suite des lois empiriques reliant le comportement mecanique au cisaillement d’une discontinuite rocheuse a sa rugosite ont ete developpees. Ce modele a ensuite ete extrapole a l’echelle d’un ouvrage et de son massif de fondation a l’aide d’une modelisation numerique aux elements discrets
