Combats pour la linguistique au Québec : courants, théories, domaines.Collection GRAMM-R, Peter Lang.5 Certains numéros sont aussi consacrés plus spécifiquement à la phonétique : Revue québécoise de linguistique 19-2, 1990 et Dialangue 4, 1993 (revue publiée à l'UQAC).place dans les universités québécoises : l'UQÀM a recruté Jean-François Prunet (McGill 1987, thèse dirigée par Glyne Piggott et Jean Lowenstamm) en 1992, tandis que l'Université Laval a accru son offre en phonologie par l'embauche de Carole Paradis (Université de Montréal 1986, thèse dirigée par Yves Charles Morin) et Darlene LaCharité (Ottawa 1993, thèse dirigée par Doug Pulleyblank).Plusieurs phonologues formés au Québec seront aussi recrutés ailleurs dans le monde.Citons notamment pour l'Europe et l'Amérique du Nord : Monik Charette (McGill 1988) à SOAS (Université de Londres), Emmanuel Nikiema (UQÀM 1993) à l'Université de Toronto-Mississauga, Jean-Robert Cadély (UQÀM 1994) à la Florida International University, Sharon Rose (McGill 1996) à l'Université de Californie à San Diego et Joe Pater (McGill 1997) à l'Université du Massachusetts à Amherst (après un passage à l'Université d'Alberta).Enfin, de cette génération locale citons Richard Desrochers, qui a obtenu son doctorat de l'Université de Montréal en 1990 et qui a à la fois contribué aux débats en phonologie théorique et à la formation en phonologie de générations d'étudiants à l'Université de Montréal.Cette deuxième vague d'embauches marque un point tournant pour la phonologie au Québec.Avec l'ajout d'une dizaine de professeurs de phonologie, le domaine a certainement atteint son apogée, du moins en termes strictement numériques, au milieu des années 1990.Mais, à partir de la fin des années 1980, plusieurs chercheurs parmi les plus dynamiques ont également quitté la scène locale et décidé de poursuivre leur carrière sous d'autres cieux.L'UQÀM et l'Université d'Ottawa seront les plus touchées.Deux des fondateurs de la Phonologie du gouvernement, dont il sera question dans la prochaine section, quittent l'UQÀM pour l'Europe à quelques années d'intervalle : Kaye en 1988, Lowenstamm en 1992.Prunet, embauché en 1992, partira au début des années 2000.L'Université d'Ottawa perdra trois phonologues en quelques années (Walker, Pulleyblank, Hung).Par ailleurs, certains chercheurs très actifs s'éloigneront de la phonologie au sens strict, tel Yves Charles Morin, qui se tournera davantage vers l'histoire du français.
