Abstract
En 1417, lorsque commença l’invasion de la Normandie par les Anglais, le duché fut défendu par des troupes majoritairement recrutées sur place. Cependant, malgré la guerre civile opposant « Armagnacs » et « Bourguignons », les princes français, et spécialement le duc de Bourgogne Jean sans Peur, tentèrent de venir en aide aux défenseurs normands. Entre 1417 et 1419, des capitaines bourguignons s’efforcèrent de stopper l’avance anglaise : ainsi, par exemple, Claude de Beauvoir, seigneur de Chastellux, maréchal de France, qui reçut pour mission de défendre la frontière du Vexin. En 1418, quand Henri V entama le siège de Rouen, le duc de Bourgogne envoya des troupes pour renforcer la garnison de la ville. Des sources variées (chroniques, comptabilité, montres et revues) fournissent beaucoup d’informations sur ces gens de guerre bourguignons et sur leurs capitaines. Ils étaient recrutés dans les deux Bourgognes et en Savoie et étaient souvent des combattants expérimentés. Après la capitulation de Rouen, beaucoup d’entre eux furent indemnisés de leurs pertes matérielles et financières.
