Etre contemporain c’est, au premier chef, etre de son temps (ou en avance sur lui) et produire une œuvre qui puisse etre recue parmi celles qui constituent le cœur vivant de la periode la plus actuelle. Cet ouvrage se penche sur la question du contemporain, aussi bien du point de vue du discours critique qui le definit que des pratiques litteraires qui s’y rattachent, en prenant pour objet le discours narratif tel qu’il s’est deploye au Quebec et en France depuis le tournant des annees 1980. Les auteurs rendent d’abord compte des themes et des mecanismes de valorisation qui marquent la critique litteraire, puis presentent des œuvres qui exemplifient certaines concretisations esthetiques et poetiques d’un nouvel art narratif. En se situant au confluent des reflexions francaises et quebecoises, ils font dialoguer ces deux corpus et tentent de repondre aux questions suivantes : la notion de contemporain designe-t-elle un meme phenomene en France et au Quebec ? Recoupe-t-elle la meme realite la-bas et ici ? Ces acceptions « nationales » se contaminent-elles, s’influencent-elles ? Entre vision panoramique et attention aux particularites des œuvres, cet ouvrage souleve des points de contact et de divergence entre les deux litteratures.
