ABSTRAK Demensia adalah bagian dari proses neurodegeneratif yang terjadi pada usia lanjut. Demensia disebabkan oleh penurunan dalam fungsi kognitif. Melakukan permainan dapat menjadi  salah satu intervensi  pada demensia pada usia lanjut. Permainan catur adalah permainan yang akrab di seluruh dunia dan juga di Karanggeneng, Lamongan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh permainan catur untuk kenyamanan  pikiran (kognitif) pada lansia dengan demensia. Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah quasy eksperimental. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah lansia dengan demensia di Lamongan. Responden dalam penelitian ini 20 orang, yang terdiri 10 orang dalam kelompok intervensi dan 10 orang kelompok kontrol. Responden yang dipilih melalui multi stage random sampling. Variabel bebas adalah permainan catur, dan variabel dependen adalah  pikiran nyaman (kognitif). Data dikumpulkan menggunakan Montreal Cognitive Assesment kuesioner dan dianalisis menggunakan Paired T-Test dan Independent T-Test dengan tingkat signifikansi α ≤ 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan selisih rerata skor kenyamanan pikiran (-0,1)  pada kelompok kontrol (p = 0.758), sebaliknya  terdapat selisih positif (3,2) rerata skor kenyamanan pikiran pada kelompok lansia yang melakukan permaikan catur (p = 0,001). Ada perbedaan  kenyamanan pikiran (kognitif) antara kelompok intervensi dan kelompok kontrol (p = 0,008) Dapat disimpulkan bahwa  intervensi chess game (permainan catur) meningkatkan pikiran nyaman (kognitif) pada lansia. Hasil penelitian ini menyarankan bahwa permainan catur dapat digunakan sebagai salah satu intervensi asuhan keperawatan untuk meningkatkan pikiran nyaman pada lansia dengan demensia. Playing game is one of activity that can be intervention for dementia in elderly. Chess game is the game that familiar in whole world and also in Karanggeneng, Lamongan. This study aim to analyze the effect of chess game to comfort mind (cognitive) at elderly with dementia. Design used in this study was quasy experimental study. Population in this study was elderly with dementia in Lamongan. The respondent in this study is 20 person, consist by 10 person in intervention group and 10 person in control group. Respondent selected through multi stage random sampling. The independent variable was chess game, and dependent variable was comfort mind (cognitive).Data were collected using MoCA-Ina questionnaires and analyzed using Paired T-Test and Independent T-Test with a significance level of α ≤ 0.05.  The results showed that there was no difference in mean score difference in the comfort of mind (-0.1) in the control group (p = 0758), otherwise there is a positive difference (3, 2 ) mean score comfort of mind on elderly people who do chess game (p = 0.001). There is a difference in the comfort of mind (cognitive) between the intervention group and the control group (p = 0.008) . It can be concluded that the intervention of chess games ( increases comfort mind (cognitive) in the elderly. The results of this study suggest that the game of chess can be used as a nursing intervention to improve the mind comfortably in the elderly with dementia .
