Abstract

La délibération démocratique requiert un espace public dans lequel les personnes peuvent apparaître, s’entendre et s’exprimer sur un pied d’égalité (Arendt, 2009). Or les transformations induites par le capitalisme numérique, les médias sociaux et l’économie de l’attention (Citton, 2014a) contribuent à la polarisation des débats (Sunstein, 2017), un déficit de l’écoute (Dobson, 2012), un accaparement de l’attention et à une perte de résonance démocratique (Rosa, 2018). À défaut de pouvoir débattre dans un espace également accessible à toutes et à tous, certaines voix se font plus fortes, tandis que d’autres demeurent inaudibles ou peu crédibles. Partant des travaux de Simone Weil et d’Hartmut Rosa, nous aborderons les injustices épistémiques liées à ces problématiques et examinerons comment elles nuisent à la qualité du débat public. Nous soutiendrons ensuite que l’écoute, l’attention et la résonance représentent à la fois des dispositions et des vertus essentielles au bon fonctionnement des processus démocratiques. Bien que ces trois dispositions soient traditionnellement considérées comme « passives », celles-ci sont cruciales pour une participation inclusive, surtout dans le cadre de débats sur des sujets sensibles qui peuvent rapidement mener à la polarisation. Nous montrerons enfin comment les pratiques de l’écoute, de l’attention et de la résonance permettent de surmonter certaines injustices herméneutiques, et de créer des espaces publics propices à la réalisation de l’idéal démocratique.
