Abstract
BACKGROUND: Pain is considered an unpleasant sensitive and emotional experience that can be associated with tissue lesions or potential damage; it prevails in all stages and stages of the disease in cancer patients affecting the different dimensions of the individual reflected in a negative impact on the patient's quality of life. In the case of patients who have undergone hematopoietic cell transplantation, pain is the most prevalent symptom due to high-intensity cytotoxic treatment; it leads to a negative state in each of the transplantation stages affecting their peace of mind and recovery. In order to obtain the description of pain perception in allogeneic-type hematopoietic cell transplantation patients, we conducted a descriptive observational study measured in two steps at the transplantation unit of Marly clinic. METHOD: The present observational design of a descriptive cohort, which measured pain using the McGill scale in allogeneic-type hematopoietic cell transplantation patients at day - 1 conditioning and day + 9 post-transplantation. For quantitative variables, summary measures such as median with interquartile range and mean with standard deviation were presented according to their measurement scale. In order to present the perception of pain on the day of conditioning -1 and post-transplantation +9, given the nature of the variable, frequencies RESULTS: 10 patients were recruited between August and October, in the -1 day of conditioning none of the participants reported pain unlike the +9 day post transplant was found that 6 (60%) manifest pain. According to the descriptors of the McGill scale, patients described pain in the sensory category pulsating-shearing at 6 (60.0%), trigger-sensitive at 5 (50.0%), as a tingling cramp at 4 (40.0%) and in the affective category fastidious at 8 (80%), exasperating - depressing at 6 (60.0%), suffocating at 5 (50.0%). The factors associated with pain in day -1 did not present alteration while in day +9 sleep was affected in 6 (60%) and decrease in daily activity in 4 (40%). Of the symptoms accompanying the pain on day -1, 30 (30%) reported nausea, while on day +9, nausea was present in 1 (10%). The intensity of the pain was observed that on day -1 only 1 (10%) participant reported mild pain, the remaining 90% of the participants did not present pain, unlike on day +9, which reported moderate to intense pain in 9 (90%). Of the 10 patients, 6 (60%) were treated for pain. CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed that the patient who underwent transplantation of allogeneic type hematopoietic cells with haploidin compatibility manifested pain on day +9 post-transplantation due to toxic complications secondary to conditioning, with both sensory and affective component.
