Abstract
La transmission d’un savoir-faire s’adapte souvent aux contingences immédiates : des connaissances techniques, habituellement délivrées dans un cadre réglé, sont parfois élargies à des catégories de personnes qui n’étaient a priori pas destinées à les recevoir. Ainsi, à Rambouillet, la Bergerie nationale, abritant une école de bergers depuis la Révolution pour former des techniciens à des connaissances solides et étayées, s’adapta aux circonstances de la Première Guerre mondiale en accueillant à partir de 1916 une école de mutilés de guerre. Des soldats purent ainsi y bénéficier d’un apprentissage technique poussé, afin de réussir une reconversion professionnelle, pour reprendre un terme très actuel. À travers cet exemple, nous voulons montrer comment l’État s’est servi d’un établissement d’enseignement agricole comme d’un outil social pour aider des personnes démunies à retrouver un travail, enjeu contemporain déjà prégnant il y a un siècle.
