El trauma de la dentición caduca puede causar un impacto físico, emocional y psicológico en los niños de cualquier edad, sin embargo, muchos acaban por no atribuirle la importancia adecuada. Teniendo en cuenta que a los 2 años ya se está formando el diente permanente, el primer aspecto que debe ser relevante es el impacto que puede causar en el diente permanente. Los niños ponen a prueba sus límites y muchas veces pueden sufrir traumas que son difíciles de prevenir, pero hay algunas precauciones que se pueden tomar para evitar estos traumas. Este trabajo destaca la importancia de los traumatismos en la dentición decidua para aclarar dudas sobre las diferentes secuelas y sus tratamientos, a partir de los testimonios de los profesionales presentes en el 17º Congreso de la Academia Latinoamericana de Odontopediatría y 6º Congreso de la APO, 2014. Para evaluar el tratamiento y las secuelas en el diente permanente, se debe valorar el tipo de traumatismo, la edad del niño, la evaluación clínica y radiográfica, y finalmente el seguimiento hasta la erupción del diente permanente.
