famille. University of North Texas Marie-Christine W. Koop Scott, Joseph, and Elizabeth Zwanziger. En Parlant: A Framework for Exercising Interpersonal Communication. Freeport, ME: Wayside, 2014. ISBN 978-1-93802669 -0. Pp. 246. $40. This volume is a new addition to the resources that might be used to elicit peerto -peer communication. En Parlant begins with an introduction to the general philosophy which guides the framework for generating conversations, based on the ACTFL Standard of Communication. The authors have set up the manual with the idea that one learns to speak most easily when there is an engaged audience and they speak freely. To aid the students in using the target language, tips are shared on gesturing to relay ideas. In theory, the students teach one another by repeating until 192 FRENCH REVIEW 89.3 Reviews 193 vocabulary and structures are memorized. This is done by asking questions that are formulated, then generating questions from cues (Conversation à deux), and finally recycling (Recyclage), hence ensuring recall of the new structures. Through repetition, the goal is for the students to lock the structures into memory and be able to use them spontaneously in the future. The book contains an introductory chapter, and then moves to a thematic grouping of conversations. These themes include such topics as the people around us, daily life, and developments in technology, to name a few. In all, there are six themes with subtopics that are labeled to indicate their level of difficulty from (1) beginners, (2) first or second year, and (3) second or third year. The lessons follow the same structure and are comprised of a list of questions meant to inspire a conversation between two students followed by questions that recycle the information from the initial Conversation à deux. Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
