본 연구는 세계 경제의 불황과 유럽 각국의 혼란스러운 사회분열 속에서도 특 별히 사회통합정책으로 성공적인 국정운영을 하고 있는 캐나다의 다문화주의와 다문화정책 전반에 대해 고찰하였다. 전 세계 모든 나라들은 다양한 역사적 배경과 인종과 언어로 인해 필연적으로 다문화국가로 형성되어 있다. 다문화정책은 각 국가에 따라 그 사회에 적합하도 록 정책이 마련되고 이행되므로 각 국가의 다문화 사회 유형에 대하여 파악하 는 것이 필요하다. 우리나라는 단일 백의민족이라는 착각속에서 외국인에 대해 서‘단기적인 노동력의 유입’과 ‘정주허용금지 원칙’을 고수하고 있지만 이 는 다른 외국의 사례에서 증명되었듯이 곧 폐기되어야 할 정책이다. 포스트코로 나 이후 비대면이 일상화되는 세상에서 강력한 다문화주의 정책을 유지하는 캐 나다는 우리에게 시사하는 바가 클 것이다.
