SOMMARIO Lo studio dei vortici di mesoscala e del loro destino, a seguito dell’impatto con isole o montagne sottomarine, e uno degli attuali problemi in campo oceanografico. Il presente lavoro e volto allo studio, mediante esperimenti di laboratorio, dell’interazione fra un vortice ciclonico e due ostacoli di forma cilindrica con sezione circolare. Gli esperimenti sono stati realizzati all’interno di una vasca rotante di sezione quadrata e con fondo inclinato, in modo da simulare il β−plane topografico. E’ stata realizzata una serie di 50 esperimenti variando in maniera sistematica tre parametri: G, la dimensione dell’apertura fra i due ostacoli, d, il diametro del vortice e y, la distanza del centro del vortice da un asse ideale passante per il centro dell’apertura fra i due ostacoli cilindrici. Quando un vortice ciclonico impatta contro gli ostacoli, parte del fluido del vortice si stacca da esso, muovendosi in direzione antioraria attorno ad uno o entrambi gli ostacoli, e genera, in relazione ai valori assunti dai parametri sopra descritti, uno o piu nuovi vortici. L’esatto numero di vortici formati e la dinamica del fenomeno dipendono quindi dal rapporto G/d e dalla geometria dell’impatto, descritta dal parametro y/g, dove g=G/2. E’ stato inoltre osservata, sotto opportune condizioni sperimentali, la formazione, a valle degli ostacoli, di un vortice anticiclonico.
