Face à la répression croissante à laquelle les Palestiniens sont aujourd’hui soumis par leur propre gouvernement, cette contribution revient sur le rôle de l’Autorité Palestinienne pour remettre en cause une idée répandue mais trompeuse: l’AP n’est pas un État, mais plutôt une sorte d’autorité administrative locale sans pouvoir souverain et dont la juridiction est systématiquement violée par l’occupation israélienne et qui, par conséquent, a eu peu d’impact sur la vie palestinienne et mérite une attention limitée. L’article soutient au contraire que, même si selon le droit international l’État palestinien n’existe pas, il existe bel et bien d’un point de vue sociologique et les Palestiniens le vivent sous des formes indéniables. Ils sont en effet dépossédés, arrêtés, réprimés, torturés et tués par leur propre autorité caractérisée plus que jamais par un monopole croissant de « l’usage de la violence physique », par la concentration du pouvoir économique et par la centralisation des instruments de domination symbolique qui par ailleurs accompagnent généralement les dynamiques de formations étatiques. Appuyé par des entretiens et des recherches d’archives, l’article propose une histoire institutionnelle de l’Autorité palestinienne en la considérant comme un dispositif colonial productif. Il montre la manière dont l’Autorité palestinienne a servi à reproduire et à consolider trois schémas coloniaux, à savoir, le statut non souverain des Palestiniens, les formes autoritaires de domination, et la division de la population colonisée/occupée en groupes, aux statuts juridiques différents et aux intérêts antagonistes.
