Abstract
Çeşitli nedenlerden dolayı öksüz kalan yavruların beslenmesi başta olmak üzere tüm ihtiyaçlarının (ısınma, idrarını yapma ve dışkılama gibi) karşılanması gerekmektedir. Öksüz yavrunun, uterus dışındaki ortama alışması ve yaşama gücünün artırılması için muhakkak desteklenmesi gerekmektedir. Öksüz yavruların beslenmesinde en iyi seçenek, koruyucu anne ile beslemektir. Koruyucu anne yokluğunda, güçlü emme refleksine sahip yavrular, genellikle biberonla beslenmektedir. Biberonla besleme yapılması, emme refleksinin devamlılığını sağlamaktadır ve aldığı süt miktarını kendisi ayarlayabilmektedir. Biberon ile besleme, tüp ile besleme sırasında meydana gelebilecek aspirasyon riskini ve yanlış miktarda besleme olasılığını azaltmaktadır. Emme refleksi zayıf olan veya olmayan öksüz yavrularda, tüple beslenme tek seçenektir. Tüpler uygun büyüklükte olmalı ve yavrunun büyüklüğüne göre seçilmelidir. Tüp ile besleme hızlıdır ve verilen gıda miktarının kaydedilmesini sağlar. Yenidoğanları beslerken, hijyenik koşulların olması çok önemlidir. Tüm ekipmanlar temiz tutulmalıdır. Besleme sonrasında yavrunun anogenital bölgesine ılık ıslak bir pamuk parçasıyla masaj yapılarak, idrar yapması ve dışkılaması uyarılmalıdır. Yavruların gelişimlerini takip etmek amacıyla ağırlık artışları günlük olarak kaydedilmelidir. Risk altındaki yavrular belirlenmelidir. Sunulan derlemede, öksüz kedi ve köpek yavrularında bakım, besleme tüpünün nasıl uygulanması gerektiği ve biberonla beslemede ve besleme sonrasında dikkat edilmesi gereken hususlar hakkında bilgiler aktarılmıştır.
