French abstract: Dans AC c Manitoba (Directeur des services a l’enfant et a la famille), April, une jeune fille de quatorze ans temoin de Jehovah, place les juges de la Cour supreme du Canada face a un dilemme. D’une part, le respect de la quete de sens individuel qui caracterise l’âge seculier peut-il justifier que des transfusions sanguines salvatrices ne soient pas administrees de force a cette mineure mature qui les refusait au nom de convictions religieuses sinceres ? D’autre part, dans un Canada multiculturel consacrant le droit a la liberte de religion, jusqu’ou cette adolescente peut- elle l’exercer ? En portant une attention toute particuliere a la configuration narrative et argumentative de cette decision, cet article s’efforce de mettre en evidence deux prises de responsabilite judiciaire distinctes face a April : celle de la juge Abella, majoritaire, qui, au nom d’un multiculturalisme critique, fait le choix de sauver le corps de la jeune fille, et celle du juge Binnie, dissident, qui, par un multiculturalisme radical, prone le respect absolu de l’autonomie d’April, meme jusqu’a la mort. English abstract: In AC v Manitoba (Director of Child and Family), the Justices of the Supreme Court of Canada face a dilemma, brought before them by April, a fourteen-year-old girl and devout Jehovah’s Witness. On one hand, could respecting one’s quest for individuality, an important pillar of the age of secularism, justify that life-saving blood transfusions be forcefully administrated to this mature minor who refuses them based on her sincere individual belief? On the other hand, in a multicultural Canada, which enshrines the right to freedom of religion, how far can this teenager go to exercise this right? By paying particular attention to the narrative and argumentative nature of this decision, this article seeks to highlight two distinct judicial responsibilities towards April. Justice Abella, writing for the majority, in the name of critical multiculturalism, chooses to save the girl’s body. Justice Binnie, writing for the dissent, through radical multiculturalism, advocates absolute respect for April’s autonomy, even until death.
