Validation initiale d'une adaptation pour les enfants de la Self-Compassion Scale

Abstract
La compassion se définit comme une réponse émotionnelle bienveillante face à la souffrance, accompagnée d’un désir de voir cette souffrance allégée. Bien que la compassion pour autrui soit principalement abordée dans les écrits, elle peut aussi être dirigée vers soi. La compassion pour soi est associée à plusieurs variables, telles l’anxiété et l’image corporelle et est largement étudiée dans les programmes d’intervention de pleine conscience. Or, les outils théoriquement justifiés avec de bonnes qualités psychométriques pour la mesurer sont peu nombreux et aucun n’existe en français pour les enfants. L’objectif de cette étude est de faire une validation initiale de l’Échelle de Compassion pour Soi pour Enfants (ÉCS-E), adaptée par le MANDALAB. Un total de 135 enfants âgés de 8 à 11 ans ont complété l’ÉCS-E. Les résultats montrent une structure factorielle différente que chez l’adulte, soit à deux facteurs. La fidélité test-retest et la cohérence interne sont acceptables. Finalement, aucun effet de sexe ni d’âge n’ont été observés sur le niveau de compassion pour soi chez les enfants, contrairement à ce qui est observé chez les adultes. Cette validation initiale permet de confirmer l’utilité de l’échelle dans les études d’intervention entre autres.
