Abstract
The article examines the artistic transformation of the images of Shakespeare’s tragedy “Macbeth” in the short stories collection “Monstrous Little Voices”. Hecate and Macbeth play a major role in the unity of the cycle. Hecate combines the features of the ancient Greek goddess and the Dark Lord. The character of Macbeth reflects the duality of a Shakespearean tragedy character — a strong, bright person, forced to commit a crime for the sake of incarnating himself, blinded by the predictions of witches, ready to do anything for the sake of power. The authors consider the influence of J. R. R. Tolkien’s work on the creation of the image of Macbeth in the collection. They also study the influence of the ideas of R. Graves and T. Hughes, expressed in the works “The White Goddess” and “Shakespeare and the Goddess of Complete Being”.
