Cet article explore le processus par lequel la bibliothque nationale australienne a acquis les archives personnelles de Merle Thornton, qui documentent des dcennies d'activisme fministe.Thornton, une personnalit minente des dbuts de la deuxime vague du mouvement fministe australien, est mieux connue comme l'une des suffragettes des bars ( Bar Room Suffragettes ), qui en 1965 se sont enchanes au bar principal de l'htel Regatta Brisbane, rclamant le droit des femmes de boire aux cts des hommes dans les bars publics.En se penchant sur le processus par lequel on a sauvegard ces documents, l'auteure pose une srie de questions au sujet des archives et du vieillissement, de l'intgration de l'histoire personnelle dans la mmoire collective et du rle des sources archivistiques pour fixer les conditions rendant possible l'criture de l'histoire de l'activisme fministe.De plus, en se penchant sur son propre rle dans ce projet, l'auteure se demande s'il est possible d'effectuer le travail de l'archivage du fminisme sur des bases radicalement nonnostalgiques qui contestent le positionnement discursif des activistes de la deuxime vague comme une gnration dont le patrimoine politique est menac par la culture de l'oubli contemporaine.Enfin, l'article aborde ncessairement la tension entre les archives comme mcanisme de la mmoire et l'enchevtrement propre aux archives entre attentes et possibilits futures.
