Abstract
The body is situated at the intersection of many issues explored in contemporary queer theory and criticism.If a definition of its materiality poses many challenges, the question of its phenomenological subjectivity is most productive in considering the queer body's frontiers, its capacity to catalyse and transform the biological, and its ability to subvert normative discourses around the material, psychological, social, and political constitution of bodies.The destabilizing effects of queer bodies foreground the anomalies in the normative systems of ideological and hegemonic power (Foucault) -including the categories which underlie this system.Recent interventions in thinking about queerness -borders/frontiers (Anzaldúa), cyborgs (de Lauretis), productive failures (Halberstam), and utopic horizons (Muñoz) -offer up new and politically charged paradigms that link gender, performativity, and embodiment.In what ways do the anomalies produced by the queer body transform the norm, normality, and normalcy?What forms of resistance oppose the normal even while taking part, in one way or another, in the norms of dominant subjectivity?This special issue of SCL on the Queer Body / Corps queer aims to analyze and expose the multiple subjugating effects and normalizing dimensions of embodiment and subjectivity in view of which and against which the queer body is conceived as a territory of exploration, subversion, and liberation.We invite submissions on any topic related to our theme, including, but not limited to, the following
