Abstract
La République du Congo ne compterait pas moins, selon A. Jacquot (1971), de 72 langues africaines, qui entretiennent des rapports hiérarchisés dans les termes du modèle gravitationnel de L.-J. Calvet (1999). Les langues vernaculaires gravitent autour des langues véhiculaires – le lingala et le munukutuba – quand celles-ci gravitent à leur tour autour du français langue officielle de facto. Face à cette complexité sociolinguistique, l’État a souvent été amené à conduire une politique linguistique à propos de certaines langues parlées sur le territoire – pour en modifier le statut (langue officielle ou non), leur corpus (élaboration ou reconnaissance officielle de dictionnaires, de grammaires), et leur acquisition notamment à l’école. Comment cette politique s’est-elle traduite dans les faits, de la colonisation à nos jours ? Comment se traduit-elle et se manifeste-t-elle dans l’enseignement ? La politique linguistique menée semble servir à prévenir des conflits entre communautés de locuteurs. Mais pour être crédible la politique engagée devrait tenir compte de l’avenir de l’ensemble des langues en présence dans leur niche écolinguistique.
