Tendo em vista a crescente movimentação educacional brasileira pautada em um discurso de inovação integrado aos preceitos neoliberais, onde o surgimento de termos como, educação ao longo da vida são amplamente divulgados por institutos e organizações como a saída para os problemas no ensino. Este trabalho tem como objetivo discutir um ponto específico desse cenário: a nova roupagem que a accountability ganhou dentro do contexto educacional através da educação ao longo da vida. Isto posto, realizamos uma pesquisa qualitativa com o viés no materialismo histórico-dialético e sua ênfase nas contradições da sociedade. Como base bibliográfica nos apoiamos em: Freitas (2007, 2018), Gadotti (2016), Laval (2019), Mészáros (2008), Brooke (2012), entre outros autores que forneceram subsídios para a compreensão da temática. Desse modo, ao tencionarmos as discussões para a problemática da educação ao longo da vida como accountability, elucidamos a necessidade de explorar a questão sobre um prisma crítico e que considere seus idealizadores e principalmente, quem é favorecido com a naturalização desse discurso.
