Abstract
La creación del Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE) y del Tribunal de Justicia Electoral (TJE) en Honduras trajo sensaciones positivas y reservas a la vez. Meses después de la creación de ambas instituciones se produjo el nombramiento de sus autoridades por acuerdo de las tres fuerzas políticas mayoritarias. Las tensiones a lo interno del CNE marcarían el desenvolvimiento de la institución hasta las elecciones generales, en las que sí hubo avances a nivel de las autoridades electorales para sacar adelante el proceso electoral. Sin embargo, los intereses partidarios y su intromisión en la autonomía del CNE fueron más visibles, desde la aprobación de la Ley Electoral de Honduras, hasta la etapa del escrutinio general previo a la declaratoria de las elecciones. La Misión de Observación Electoral de la Unión Europea enfatizó que la intromisión de los partidos políticos en el manejo del proceso sigue ocasionando problemas. Si bien esta injerencia fue eclipsada por la legitimidad que obtuvo la elección presidencial de Xiomara Castro, sin reformas electorales y cambios en la cultura política que fortalezcan la autonomía de las instituciones, futuros procesos electorales con resultados más estrechos pueden ocasionar nuevos episodios de crisis y una disminución en el apoyo de los ciudadanos a la democracia hondureña.
