L es études réunies dans ce numéro spécial constituent l'aboutissement des recherches d'un groupe de spécialistes de la littérature et de la culture française du Moyen Âge et de la Renaissance.Elles se proposent d'apporter un nouvel éclairage sur le statut et la place du théâtre de Marguerite de Navarre dans l'histoire des idées religieuses, littéraires, scientifiques et sociales de la première moitié du XVI e siècle.Que Monsieur Richard Hillman, directeur de la revue Renaissance and Reformation/Renaissance et Réforme, qui a bien voulu consacrer le présent numéro spécial à ce sujet, trouve ici l'expression de notre vive gratitude.L'intérêt qu'il a porté à nos recherches, ses commentaires et ses suggestions éclairés nous ont été indispensables pour mener à bon terme le présent travail.Ce volume se fonde en partie sur des communications présentées lors d'une journée d'études internationale qui s'est tenue le 22 mai 2003 à Dijon sous notre direction et avec le soutien financier du Centre de recherches « Le Texte et l'Édition » de l'Université de Bourgogne.Il s'est enrichi depuis cette date de nouvelles contributions.Nous tenons à remercier Madame Martine Bercot, directrice du Centre, et Monsieur Jérôme Martin, ingénieur d'études, pour le généreux accueil qu'ils nous ont prodigué lors de cette
