Abstract
1La République Batave constitue un épisode déterminant de l'histoire néerlandaise.Marquant une rupture avec l'Ancien Régime, cette période, qui s'étale de 1795 à 1801, voire de 1781 à 1813, permit également de prolonger un certain nombre de valeurs séculaires des Provinces-Unies au sein de la période contemporaine.Or cette période qualifiée ultérieurement de « Française » fut dès le retour d'Angleterre du prince d'Orange en 1813 stigmatisée comme étrangère.Pourtant ce dernier reprenait à son compte le modèle napoléonien afin d'atteindre l'objectif que la famille d'Orange tentait de réaliser depuis deux siècles à savoir, réunir les multiples provinces des Pays-Bas sous son autorité.Comme le constatait l'ambassadeur du Royaume-Uni à La Haye, Lord Clancarty, « on ne marche plus que dans les souliers de Napoléon » (Lettre de l'ancien intendant des Finances, Goldberg au secrétaire général Falck en date du 25 septembre 1814 dans H.T.
