(2005), however, detected B. burgdorferi in Ixodes auritulus Neumann larvae collected from a fox sparrow, Passerella iliaca (Merrem) in 2003, from Vancouver Island, Canada constituting the Þrst report of B. burgdorferi-infected tick larvae on a bird in western North America.Wright et al. (2011) also incorrectly cite Scott et al. (2010) as having collected B. burgdorferi-infected Ixodes scapularis Say from an Oregon junco, Junco hyemalis oreganus (Townsend).Since the Oregon junco is a western subspecies of the darkeyed junco, Junco hyemalis hyemalis (L.), a tick-infested Oregon junco in eastern North America would be an anomaly.Moreover, I. scapularis is not indigenous in western North America.Scott et al. (2010) reported a pool of 8 B. burgdorferi-positive immature I. auritulus (1 nymph, 7 larvae) on an Oregon junco in 2004 four years prior to the collections of B. burgdorferi-infected, I. pacificus Cooley and Kohls larvae on Oregon juncos reported by Wright et al. (2011).
