Poirier, University of Ottawa Este artículo pretende exponer la visión que se tiene en Canadá y en Ontario sobre la educación para la ciudadanía.Pretende, asimismo, mostrar de qué manera este campo de estudios contribuye a fomentar la conciencia de los alumnos de cara a las diferentes dimensiones de la ciudadanía, especialmente de cara al respecto a los derechos humanos.En un primer momento, se traza el origen del concepto de educación para la ciudadanía, a fin de mostrar de qué modo su importancia resulta esencial a la hora de asegurar el mejor-ser de la sociedad canadiense.En un segundo momento, se abordan las diferentes dimensiones de la educación para la ciudadanía, a partir de una revisión de los principales autores sobre la materia.Más tarde, se analizan las diferentes opciones planteadas por los ministerios de educación, en especial los de Manitoba, Québec y Ontario, con respecto al contenido de los cursos de Educación para la ciudadanía, que se imparten actualmente en la enseñanza secundaria.El artículo termina proponiendo algunos elementos para la reflexión y para investigaciones futuras en este ámbito.
