Abstract
Notebook provides data not easilyfound elsewhere, background descriptions ofimportant aspects ofthe energy system and reports on new developments. Contribution are invited.For several decades oil has been the main source of energy worldwide.Since the mid 1970s, oil suppliesfrom the Persian Gulf have been in competition with other sources.This paper argues that at the beginning of the new millennium the Persian Gulfstates will assert their dominant role in the world oil market.The study analyzes the current and potential suppliers such as the North Sea and the Caspian Sea Basin.The growing demand in Asia, particularly in China, is discussed.Finally, the conclusion highlights the security dilemma ofoil supplies from the Persian Gulf Depuis des decennies, Ie petrole est fa SOurce principale d'energie dans Ie monde.A partir du milieu des annees 70, l'approvisonnement en petrole provenant du Golfe persique est en concurrence avec d'autres sources d'approvisionnement.eet article soutient qu 'en ce debut du millenaire, les Etats du Golfe persique affirmeront leur preponderance sur Ie marche mondial.L'etude analyse les fournisseurs actuels et luturs, entre Qutres ceux provenant de la mer du Nord et du bassin de fa mer Caspienne.On discute de fa demande croissante provenant de l'Asie, particulierement de fa Chine.En conclusion, nous attirons l'attention sur les problemes de securite concernant flapprovisionnement en provenance du Golfe persique.
