Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The OAA Code of Ethics states that “members should… strive for design excellence and in so doing, members should thoughtfully consider and respect both the natural and cultural environment of the communities in which they practice.” But does design excellence entail the obligation to create experiences that are beautiful? Elaine Scarry argues that beauty presses us toward a greater concern for justice. Based on her work, this thesis explores the significance of beauty and the role that it plays in the experience of the built world. The thesis is tested through a proposal in a neglected site in Ottawa that holds historical value. The proposed design repurposes the existing structure as cooperative housing for senior women. Drawing upon studies from Atul Gawande, the project is designed as a supportive environment for senior women to keep their independence and contribute to society by caring for each other under one self-sustaining program.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
