Abstract
Depuis la découverte du virus, les manuels en soins infirmiers incluent la notion de VIH/sida pour qu’elle soit transmise dans la formation de premier cycle. Cependant, les écrits dévoilent l’existence d’un écart entre cette formation et les compétences requises pour prodiguer des soins aux personnes vivant avec le VIH. Conscientes des lacunes de la formation initiale en VIH/sida et qui, à ce jour, n’ont pas été explorées dans les manuels, nous avons réalisé une analyse qualitative de contenu de 18 manuels de médecine-chirurgie. Les résultats de cette étude ont dévoilé trois catégories : les représentations du VIH, des personnes vivant avec le VIH et des soins. La première catégorie renvoie à la façon dont on raconte l’histoire du VIH et parle du virus ainsi que la façon dont on décrit la maladie et conceptualise la transmission. La deuxième correspond aux personnes qui sont à risque de contracter le VIH, qui vivent avec le VIH et à la façon dont on les représente. La troisième réfère à la représentation des types de soins, leurs objectifs et les enjeux qui y sont associés.
